In 2014 VICE Media was on fire, capturing a huge youth audience through remarkably compelling and incisive coverage of current events, music, food and fashion. But for all the its success, the company had made little inroads in the huge sports media market, mainly focusing on skateboarding and surfing.
Enter a swat team of VICE veterans from different disciplines to build VICE Sports, a new channel for coverage of all sports, niche and mainstream. I served as Creative Director for three years, leading coverage of the 2014 World Cup, forging a joint venture with Carmelo Anthony, leading major brand partnerships with Nike, Budweiser and the International Olympic Committee, and producing documentaries around the world that have since driven VICE Sports’ YouTube channel past 1M subscribers.
